Computer Group

Page history last edited by David Eagles 1 mo ago

Purpose

For anyone with an interest in the uses and applications of home computers to meet together in a self-help group for discussions, demonstrations, damage limitations and confidence building. Every level of experience and expertise is welcome, from "Where is the switch?" beginners to pamphlet-producing publishers!

Activities

The Computer Group meets in the Computing Suite of Winton School once a month. We discuss topics of general interest to us, both as PC and Internet users and as sufferers of the technology operated by large companies and governmental organisations. We also discuss our own particular problems with IT in the hope that we can learn from each other.

Meetings

We continue to meet regularly at Winton's Computer Suite, and we remain very grateful for the use of such excellent accommodation. Our programme recently has included a presentation by Richard Skegg of Winton School about the future of computing in education. I think Winton is already well ahead, in that every student (including U3A Computer Group members) can use all Winton's study facilities via Internet from the comfort oftheir own homes. We have also had a quiz about all the things the amateur home computer user needs to know.

Our next meeting on 15th October 2009 is a special - we have a Computer Forensic Investigator from Hampshire Constabulary coming to talk to us about the work of the team.  I'm very happy to open the meeting to all Anton members who might be interested, so please let your friends know

Looking forward to seeing you all at 3.30 on Thursday next.
